As a vibrant mom of four kids, Charlène Sery knows how to embrace the chaos, joys, and lessons of raising a family. Below, she reflects on her year and why navigating the delicate art of prioritizing herself has led to finally feeling whole again.
This past year has been a year of growth, self-discovery, and big changes. I’ve learned to take better care of myself, to let go of stress, and to focus on what truly matters. As a mom of four, life can feel like an endless whirlwind of responsibilities, and it’s easy to lose sight of yourself. For years, I felt like I was just going through the motions, always prioritizing everyone else. But this year, I made a conscious decision to put myself on the list, and it’s been life-changing – for the first time in nine years as a mom, I finally feel like me again.
My family’s love and support have been my anchor this year, giving me the courage to embrace myself. And it’s not just about me, taking care of myself has made me a better mom, partner, and person. I feel more balanced and fulfilled, ready for whatever comes next.

Honestly, I haven’t felt a lot of societal pressure, except when it comes to work. Now that I’m feeling energized and motivated to chase my goals, time feels like my biggest challenge. There’s always this feeling of wanting to do more, but I’m learning everyday to be more realistic and not letting that pressure stress me out too much.
Trying to meet society’s expectations can make you lose yourself, and I’m not willing to let that happen. I’ve embraced the idea that happiness comes from within and letting go of those societal pressures has been incredibly liberating.

I’ve learned that it’s not just okay but necessary to prioritize myself. Being kind to myself, both mentally and physically, has been a big focus – and it’s made such a difference. I used to feel guilty for taking time for myself, but now I see it as essential. Whether it’s having a coffee, relaxing on the couch or going for a walk, those moments recharge me. This self-kindness has been everything. For the first time in a long time, I feel really, really good. And it feels incredible.

Embrace your unique story. Stop comparing yourself to others, as everyone has their own path and story. Celebrate your small wins, no matter how insignificant they may seem. A small step you can take today is taking just 30 minutes or an hour to do something you enjoy. Even the little moments of self-care can make a big difference in how you feel.
And most importantly, remember that you are loved. When you’re happy and fulfilled, you bring your best self to your family and the world.
